How long do tyre fittings take?
Car maintenance services, especially tire fittings, are highly specialist tasks, which are best left to the experts.
With any vehicle – be it a car, van, or motorcycle tyres – it is imperative that the tyres are regularly checked over, and consistently kept in good condition. This is a hugely important factor when assessing a vehicle’s safety.
As such, regular tyre maintenance services are essential. These services can cover checks of pressure, assessing whether the tyre tread is even, or refilling with air. In the event that there is a significant issue with one or more tyres, then replacements may be necessary.
All of these services are covered by a tyre fitter. The job of a tyre fitter is to assess the condition of the tyres, then conduct repairs and replacements if needed. With their assistance, you can keep your vehicle and its tyres at the highest possible safety standard.
To help you understand more about a service of tyre fitting, what it covers and how long you can expect it to take, we’ve created this quick guide to tyre fittings. That way, you can get back on the road as quickly as possible.
How long does a typical tyre-fitting service last?
A typical tyre fitting will take around 30 minutes for each tyre. So, tyre fitting for four wheels on a standard car will take around 2 hours.
Unfortunately, there is no set answer to this question. This is because tyre fittings, by their nature, will vary in length depending on the specific situation and the condition of the tyres.
We all depend on our vehicles, and many of us would find it extremely difficult to negotiate a busy day of plans without them. So, we would recommend that you allow between 30 – 60 minutes for each tyre that needs fitting. This will give you plenty of allowance to manage plans and schedules around the service.
What would mean that a tyre fitting service would take longer?
As mentioned above, the duration of a tyre fitting service can vary considerably, depending on a number of factors.
A tyre fitting could take longer than the standard 30 minutes if:
- Uneven tyre tread is identified
- One or more tyres need replacing
- The air pressure of a tyre is too high, and has caused a misshapen tyre
- A tyre flaw or puncture is identified
- The tyre is bigger than average
- The vehicle is larger and heavier than average
- The garage does not have the equipment required to replace a tyre
The best way to ensure that you’re on top of your vehicle maintenance (and not caught out by any long or expensive service jobs!) is to book regular, scheduled services. This will provide a proactive response to any potential hazards, and make sure that they are dealt with quickly, before they are allowed to develop into a bigger problem.
